When I was a child, the first exhibition I would visit in every natural history museum was the mineralogical one. I was fascinated by minerals, with their incredible variety of colours and geometries. Now, as a geologist, I can say that minerals offer much more than just visual appeal: my research focuses on mineralogy and crystallography, and while I have gained a deeper understanding of this field, it still holds many mysteries waiting

 to be solved.

My PhD project aims to investigate the crystal-chemical features of pyrochlore-supergroup minerals, in order to assess their suitability as mineral sinks for heavy metals dispersed in aqueous matrices.

B.Sc. in Geological Sciences at the University of Florence, 2020. Thesis title: “Granitic pegmatites: deposits of rare metals and minerals of industrial and gemmological interest”.

M.Sc. in Geological Sciences and Technologies (Environmental Geology and Georesources) at the University of Florence, 2022. Thesis title: “Thallium incorporation in hydropyrochlore crystals”.

PhD student in Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of Florence, 2022-ongoing, XXXVIII cycle. Project title: “Pyrochlore supergroup minerals: potential sinks for toxic elements in aqueous matrices”.

Research interest:

Crystallography, crystal-chemistry, environmental mineralogy, mineralogy, inorganic chemistry

Tutor:

Prof. Luca Bindi (UNIFI).
